Not what I meant. I just thought the pictures after the review i.e the mos defs & maybes were too close to the next review. I didn't mind it the way it was but I could never get it to space no matter what I tried to do.

I took a minute with Finesse myself... it was easy to be a lil' lax on some artists at that time- there were only so many hours in the day and I was listening to some of everybody out there. Honestly, I never became much of a Finesse fan, but there was a few moments (esp. on Show & AG's "Represent") where I was def. checkin' for him. "S.K.I.T.S." was another one I liked. It's still one of my favorite Finesse joints, along with "Actual Facts" and "Yes You May" remix.

As for Solo... that album wasn't bad, but it probably had the worst timing ever. It was in the middle of EPMD/Redman/Das and it wasn't as strong as those, so he was in the shadow of that, and then '92 was a pretty busy summer with all the crazy joints that were out there. But I did dig the album once I got around to it.

I'ma have to respectfully disagree on the Ed album... lol. I went thru some buyer's remorse with that one. Actually, I went thru shock, denial, anger and acceptance with it as well. I didn't wanna believe that shit wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. But it was bad. Bad.

I prefer the original 'Rampsack' to the remix, but wow, talk about a guy goin' from standout to 'blah'. I don't know if the industry wore him down or if it was a natural change, but Ramp ended up on some super-lukewarm shit by '97.

Short as 'Salute' is, it's one of my top 3 faves on 'Firing Squad', along with 'Brownsville' and 'Stick 2 Ur Gunz'. Biased towards the Premo tracks? Maybe.

I had a rediscovery of sorts with 'Hush Hush Tip' too... I didn't really care for it when it was out. Few years later, I heard it on the college station out here in B-More (WEAA), and it suddenly sounded better to me than it did back then.

In fairness, and in retrospect, maybe the UMCs didn't get a fair shake out the gate due to the change in style and image. But then again, even listening now, I don't feel the music was up to par either. Like you said, it was def. in line with a lot of East Coast circa '93-'94 stuff. Understandably, they woulda been shooting themselves in the foot to try coming out in '94 with that kid-friendly shit. Their new approach just seemed a lil' too drastic of a change to take seriously. Their shit woulda had to be NUCLEAR to erase that image of them dancin' with a puppet two years earlier.

The M.O.P. joint from that album that I was always nutso about was "Blue Steel"... ain't mad at "Top of the Line" either tho'.

As for the Keith Murray album- I actually felt it was better than the first one. No doubt, the debut had the stronger singles, the harder direction, and Keith was killin' shit lyrically... but it also had a lotta random shit on it. In comparison, I feel like 'Enigma' was more focused and there was less skippable songs on it. Both good damn albums either way you cut it, though.

"I Luh Huh" was one of my favs from the Vagina Diner album... really, no one can ever lose with that Don Covay sample. I like every song I've heard that uses that record, haha

I've been searching high and low for an mp3 of 'Southern Comfort'... definitely got a nice run in the tape deck in '94.

That 'Brown Sugar' remix is one that flew under my radar as well- strange because I was a fan of D'Angelo, Kool G, AND Da Beatminerz at the time it came out... and I was always keeping up on all the new music. But like you, I didn't hear it until some years back, and it's one of my fav. Beatminerz tracks too.

Good entry here, all of these are some good underacknowledge joints... although I'm still hard-pressed to feel one way or another about that Brand Nubian album.
